Bicycle tour Píšťany lake and the Oparno valley by bike

The short trip around Lake Píšt'any is also suitable for less fit cyclists or for families with children.

Start your trip in Litoměřice, taking the Elbe Cycle Route to Píšt'any, where you can swim in the lake and have a cold drink at the marina. Then hop a ferry to Lovosice to visit the U Zámečku lookout. Take alternate route 2A of the Elbe Cycle Route to the ferry crossing in Malé Žernosky, then continue along cycle route 25 into the picturesque Oparno valley. There is a pretty stretch alongside the Milešovský brook and then you can stop for a bite to eat at Černodolský mlýn. Take the same route back to the ferry in Malé Žernosky, crossing the river to the main fork of the Elbe Cycle Route and continue to Velké Žernosky. Here you can make a short detour to the village and maybe pick up a bottle of the local wine. Then it’s just a short ride back to Litoměřice along the Elbe Cycle Route.

This ride is possible in summer months when ferries are running.

Litoměřice Town

Litoměřice is located at the confluence of the Elbe and Ohře rivers, on the border of the Bohemian Central Highlands and the Polabska Lowlands, in the famous and picturesque wine region of Bohemia.

Where to go in Litoměřice?

  1. The town's Kalich lookout tower, which was built in the 16th century. The tower offers a beautiful view of the historic centre of the town, the confluence of the Elbe and Ohře rivers and the surrounding landscape of the Bohemian Central Highlands. The entrance gate not only to the Kalice, but also to other city exhibitions - Richard Mine, Mácha's World or guided tours of the city is the Information Centre in the arcade of the Litoměřice Town Hall on Mírový náměstí.
  2. The tower at St. Stephen's Cathedral on Dome Hill, which offers an equally magical view from a height of 65 metres. You can also get a bird's eye view of the gardens of the bishop's residence. The adjacent cathedral is only open in summer - so take a peek!
You can visit both sights during the summer together with Litoměřice churches within 1 ticket for 130 CZK!
The tourist product THE CIRCLE MONUMENTS AND SIGHTS OF LITOMĚŘICE is unique and only available for tourists during July and August. You can visit the Church of All Saints, the Church of St. James, the Cathedral of St. Stephen and the former Jesuit Church of the Annunciation, where the beautiful exhibition of the Černický couple will be on display all summer long.
  3. The Gothic twin is the oldest house in Litoměřice and offers the most interesting courtyard in Litoměřice and a permanent exhibition of international cultural projects of the Cultural Centre Řehlovice
  4. The Litoměřice Castle with its winery exhibition is a former Gothic castle and is rightly considered the pearl of the royal town of Litoměřice. The heart of the castle, dating back to the 13th century, is a modern exposition dedicated to winemaking.
Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque buildings, protected in the town's conservation reserve, declared in 1978, will remind you of the historical glory of royal Litoměřice as mute witnesses. Of the 256 buildings, 104 are listed on the state list of immovable cultural monuments and almost all of them can be found in the historic city centre, which is largely bounded by preserved Gothic fortifications.
Houses around the square, historical cellars, many churches, a museum, several galleries and many other attractions are waiting for your interest and your visit.

TIP

Take a walk through the castle parks - here you will find not only peace and quiet, but also a beautiful view of the old Litoměřice with the Dómský hill or the panorama of the Bohemian Central Highlands with Hazmburk and the memorable Říp mountain.

However, Litoměřice is not only a city rich in history, but also a city alive with culture and sport. Visitors will find galleries, museums, theatre and cinema, various sports facilities, swimming pools and golf courses. The exhibition centre hosts a number of exhibitions throughout the year, the most visited of which is the Garden of Bohemia in autumn .
