Bicycle tour Píšťany lake and the Oparno valley by bike

The short trip around Lake Píšt'any is also suitable for less fit cyclists or for families with children.

Start your trip in Litoměřice, taking the Elbe Cycle Route to Píšt'any, where you can swim in the lake and have a cold drink at the marina. Then hop a ferry to Lovosice to visit the U Zámečku lookout. Take alternate route 2A of the Elbe Cycle Route to the ferry crossing in Malé Žernosky, then continue along cycle route 25 into the picturesque Oparno valley. There is a pretty stretch alongside the Milešovský brook and then you can stop for a bite to eat at Černodolský mlýn. Take the same route back to the ferry in Malé Žernosky, crossing the river to the main fork of the Elbe Cycle Route and continue to Velké Žernosky. Here you can make a short detour to the village and maybe pick up a bottle of the local wine. Then it’s just a short ride back to Litoměřice along the Elbe Cycle Route.

This ride is possible in summer months when ferries are running.

Porta Bohemica Winery s.r.o. - Velké Žernoseky

One of the youngest wineries in Velké Žernosky was founded in 2010.

The winery's name, Porta Bohemica - Czech Gate, is inspired by a natural geological formation that is beautifully overlooked from our vineyards. Handcrafting in the vineyard is the most important step on the road to natural wines. We try to keep the use of sprays to a minimum when growing the vines. The grapes are harvested by hand, crushed and the mash then lies on the skins for several days. The resulting must is spontaneously fermented. The wine is left in the cellar over the winter in oak barrels and stainless steel containers, where it matures without further intervention. This gives the wine free rein to express its varietal and place of origin. The aim is to produce harmonious wines with the juicy acidity so characteristic of our region. The main variety is Müller-Thurgau. We also grow early Veltliner, Tramin red, Riesling, St. Lawrence and Pinot Noir.

Our wines are on the menus of wine bars and restaurants in Prague, Brussels, Litoměřice, New York, Paris, Tabor, Tokyo and Montréal.

By prior arrangement, we offer the possibility of tastings or work brigades (with a picnic and tasting in the cellar).
