Cycle trip to the chateaux of the Bohemian Central Uplands - cycle route No. 3066
The medium-long trip will take you to two beautiful castles and also to the hills and nature of the Bohemian Central Highlands. The trip is 57 km long and can be done even by a moderately fit cyclist.
Start this trip in Ústí nad Labem, following the Elbe cycle route to Velké Březno for a stop at the chateau. While you’re here, take a tour and admire the grounds. Then it’s back on your bike and off on cycle route 3066 for a steady climb of about 7 km. You will pass through several villages to reach the highest point of the trip and then enjoy the descent to Ploskovice, where another beautiful chateau awaits. Have a look inside and don’t forget to explore the gardens and the unique underground grottos. You can also take a break at Café Páv. From Ploskovice, it’s only a short ride to Litoměřice, where you can leave your bike in the bike tower and hit the old town center. For the ride back, follow the Elbe Trail downstream, through the Porta Bohemica valley to Ústí nad Labem, where Střekov Castle awaits.

Ploskovice Chateau
The jewel among the castles and chateaus of northern Bohemia is Ploskovice near Litoměřice. The chateau in Ploskovice was built in 1720-1730.
The real pearl among the chateaus of the Northern Bohemia is the Ploskovice chateau near Litoměřice. It was built between 1720 and 1730 by Anna Marie Františka of Toscany, then wife of the last descendant of the famous Italian noble family – Medici. The original summer residence was rebuilt in the late Baroque style by Kilián Ignác Dietzenhofer. At the beginning of the 19th century, the chateau became the property of the Habsburg family. The emperors Ferdinand V and Franz Joseph I both used Ploskovice as their summer residence.
After Czechoslovakia was established in 1918, it became the summer seat of the Foreign Ministry. It was often visited by Edvard Beneš and his wife. We recommend the tour round the castle and the walk through its gardens with Baroque style fountain and grotto (artificial cave) to any visitor of the Central Bohemian Uplands.
