Ploskovice castle was founded in 1720-1730 by Anna Marie Františka Toskánská, wife of the last descendant of famous italian house Medici. Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer rebuilt the castle to the summer residence in high baroque style. At the beginning of the 19th century the castle became a property of the house of Habsburgs and was used mainly by the emperor Ferdinand V. the Gentle (Dobrotivý) as a summer mansion, afterwards used also by František Josef I. After the establishment of the Czechoslovakia, Ploskovice castle served as a summer mansion for the Foreign Ministry. Especially president Edvard Beneš with his wife visited the castle frequently. We strongly recommend you to visit Ploskovice castle, to experience castle tour with a lovely walk through the garden dominated by the artificial cave and baroque water fountain.
