Hrádek Castle ruin (Helfenburk), Litoměřice

Original castle founded by a noble house of Ronovci in the first middle of the 14th century was significantly extended and improved by a famous Prague arcibishop Jan from Jenštejn in the late 14th century.

In the 16th century the importance of the castle was minimized and the final end of its existence came with the Thirty Year’s War. In the second half of the 20th century the castle ruin was in the long term preservation and it was partially recontructed. Its most preserved parts are an enclosure wall with a spirelet and a tall prismatic tower at the entrance side, all together enclosing fragments of an older central sandstone block.
