Střekov Castle, Ústí nad Labem

On a rocky cliff above the Elbe’s valley stands proudly one of the most romantic Czech castles and well-preserved ruin – Střekov Castle.

Its silhouette has been a symbol of Ústí nad Labem over the centuries. It was founded in 14th century when Czech king Jan Lucemburský decided to ensure the security of Elbe’s sailing and toll collection. The castle has changed many owners, recently its possession with surrounding estates and forests belongs to the house of Lobkowicz. During the romantic period in the 19th century the castle inspired Czech poet K.H.Mácha or German composer Richard Wagner. In local comfortable restaurant with a terrace visitors may enjoy scenic view of picturesque landscape of České Středohoří, the river Elbe and Ústí nad Labem.
