In 1972, the museum's exposition moved to the former school building near Smetanovy sady and the North Bohemian Opera and Ballet Theater, where it is still located today. At the beginning of the 21st century, a long-planned complete reconstruction of the museum building took place. After that it was opened to the public in 2011.
The museum offers collections from the fields of archeology, history, art and natural sciences. But you will also find a set of weapons and military material from 1813.
Every year, the museum organizes a number of spectacular exhibitions, often interactive. Throughout the year, it also organizes interesting lectures, workshops, and themed days for children and seniors. The museum has a cafe.
