Lake Chmelař is the main centre of tourism and relaxation in summer times. The name lake is a term that has been generally adopted, like in the case of the nearby Máchovo Lake. However, this is a common mistake in both cases. The Úštěcký lake was created in the beginning of the 1960s in the area of a former medieval Great Pond. A new, 400m long gravity dam raised the surface so high, that a small hamlet Zelená village even disappeared beneath it. Today, Chmelař and the adjacent area is a centre of creation .

Attractions
Right next to the Lake Chmelař, the Pirates Conquer the Lake event is held regularly in July. It is very popular and is visited by several thousand visitors.
