Journalists from the Netherlands visited the Elbe Trail in the Ústí nad Labem Region

Foreign journalists from the Netherlands visited the Elbe Trail thanks to a press trip organized by the CzechTourism Beneleux foreign representation in cooperation with the Ústí nad Labem Region and the Destination Agency České středohoří.

The first stop in the Ústí nad Labem region was the town of Roudnice nad Labem. The group arrived here from Central Bohemia and visited the city centre and the Hlásku tower with a local guide. Here, the travellers learned interesting information about the tower itself, but also about the town of Roudnice nad Labem, the Lobkowicz castle or the nearby Říp mountain. The next stop in Roudnice was the Caffé Říp restaurant in the cultural centre, where visitors tasted Czech cuisine.

From Roudnice, the group enjoyed a bike ride along the alternative route of the Elbe Trail to Terezín. On the way there was a small stop at the interesting church of St. Catherine of Alexandria near Libotenice and then the journalists headed to the fortress town. Here they first learned about the Small Fortress, the Jewish ghetto and the World War II era. This was followed by an hour-long visit to Retranchement V, where the entire Terezín Fortress, its history and uniqueness in terms of construction and defence were presented. It also included an attractive tour of the underground corridors of the fortress. From Terezín, it was only a short drive to Litoměřice, where visitors enjoyed the beer and food at the Bishop's Brewery U Sv. Štěpána.

On the second day we planned to visit the city of Litoměřice. The journalists visited, for example, the tower of St. Stephen's Cathedral where they were amazed by the perfect view of the city and the surrounding landscape of the Bohemian Central Highlands. From Litoměřice, the presstrip then continued on bicycles along the Elbe Trail through the beautiful Porta Bohemica valley to Ústí nad Labem, where a visit to the Střekov Castle took place and after lunch the visit to the Elbe Trail ended. The journalists then continued without bikes to Děčínský Sněžník, Děčín and the next day to the Czech Switzerland National Park.

"We really enjoyed the Elbe Trail and the route was a pleasant surprise. We passed through picturesque towns, visited beautiful monuments and saw diverse nature. The route markings and places to rest or have a snack were also very nice. Of the sections of the Elbe Trail, the part between Velke Žernoseke and Střekov Castle caught my eye," said Erna Lise Snoeij from CzechTourism Benelux.
