The North Bohemian Research Library in Ústí nad Labem in cooperation with the Ústí Region and other partners published a Czech-Ukrainian guide to the Ústí Region for young travellers Falco and I. The book was launched on Monday 27 June 2022 at the meeting of the Ústí nad Labem Regional Council.

This Czech-Ukrainian guide to the Ústí nad Labem region is intended for Ukrainian children from the first grade of primary schools who have found a temporary home in our region. It was created by a collective of authors under the leadership of Karolína Žákovská, chairwoman of the Committee for National Minorities. It was officially christened during the 15th session of the Ústí nad Labem Regional Assembly. The book was christened by Karolína Žákovská and the Governor Jan Schiller. The ceremony was also attended by guests from among the authors.
"I had the idea to create a publication introducing the Ústí nad Labem Region to children from Ukraine who had found a temporary home in the region while fleeing the war in March 2022. It was only thanks to the enthusiasm and willingness of the members of the team that was formed in this context that the idea was implemented so that the publication would be available to children before the summer holidays," explained Karolína Žákovská in her speech. She also thanked all the people involved in the creation of the book and concluded by adding: "I believe that this first edition will be followed by others, which will introduce the beauty of the Ústí Region to other children with a mother tongue other than Czech."
The purpose of the Falco and Me guide is to introduce children to selected places across the Ústí nad Labem region in a playful way and to contribute to the development of their knowledge of the Czech language. Children can solve various quizzes, complete colouring books and write notes in the guide. The publication is in the form of an A5 ring-bound book and contains 96 pages.
A bilingual website efalco.cz has also been created to accompany the guide, where you can download the publication and share your own travel experiences. The publication was printed in 2 000 copies and distributed to primary schools in the Ústí nad Labem region before the end of the school year. Several editions were also taken to the Regional Assistance Centre for Ukraine (KACPU) in Ústí nad Labem.
