Chateau Benešov nad Ploučnicí

The chateau complex in Benešov nad Ploučnicí is a unique example of architecture from the period of the transition between Vladislav Gothic and Renaissance - the so-called Saxon Renaissance.

The Benešov nad Ploučnicí Chateau Complex is the collective name of seven historical buildings located in the centre of Benešov nad Ploučnicí. It consists of two castles (upper and lower), three palaces, a church and a chapel. In addition, the so-called lower castle is a complex consisting of three historic and separate palaces. The whole area is protected by a monument, and in 2001 the Lower and Upper Chateaux, houses No. 44 and 54, Starschedel House and Konojed House were declared a national cultural monument. The castle is owned by the state and managed by the National Heritage Institute.

Benešov nad Ploučnicí Castle is one of the most important preserved monuments of the Czech Republic. Inside the three accessible castles there is a richly equipped period exhibition mapping the life of the nobility. From April to October, you can visit three tours of the castle complex. There are also costumed tours and other unusual and attractive events.

More information about the castle can be found on the website www.zamek-benesov.cz.
